Mega Man 4 is a game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It is the sequel to Mega Man 3 on the NES itself. Today, the game can be found on compilations such as Mega Man Legacy Collection and going back one step further, Mega Man Anniversary Collection.
Premise
Dr. Wily had been beaten again. This time, he is using blackmail to use another scientist in the mix. The name is Dr. Cossack. His daughter was captured and is being forced by Dr. Wily to go about building robot masters. Mega Man must put a stop to Wily as it is once again, another plot to take over the world.
Gameplay
You must complete eight robot master levels by selecting the stages. The formula is to select the stage and then begin playing. Once you get to the end of the stage, you will fight one of the robot masters. Once that one has been defeated, you will acquire the weapon. Its style is still in the rock-paper-scissors format, so it does require strategy.
In terms of abilities, Mega Man will have the ability to perform the charge shot. To do so, hold the attack button down and then eventually release. There is still the slide as it is a staple in the franchise itself.
There are two more rush items that are present and can be acquired through beating two robot masters. For the Rush Marine, Toad Man will need to be beaten. With Rush Jet, you will need to eliminate Drill Man. Once done, you will have them all.
In addition, the password system is present. Write down the password as you complete the levels. With this, you will be able to get back and make progress instead of having to play the game from the beginning all the way to the very end.
After completing the robot masters, there will be stages to go through. It is also the first game to have two different palaces. It will go in a linear format. The first one is the Dr. Cossack castle and then the last one is the Dr. Wily one.
Overall
Mega Man 4 is a good game to play. It continues the tradition of offering a new ability. If you are into Mega Man games and looking to play one that is a classic, this is the one to play as well. Finding the game by itself might be a challenge, but it is possible. It is likely to be found online and would require having a working NES console.
