The first game created for the franchise is Mega Man available for the NES. It is the start of the Mega Man classic franchise. This would later spawn into other franchises such as the Mega Man X, Zero, ZX, Legends, Battle Network, and Star Force. Since there were multiple series’ that came out, it had become one of the most recognizable games. Rock Man is his name in Japan.
Dr. Wily stole Dr. Light’s robots and reprogrammed them for evil. His main goal is to take over the world. Dr. Light had to rebuild Rock into a fighting robot that is known as Mega Man. Because of the change, he was now tasked with defeating the robot masters that had been reprogrammed.  He must go out there and stop all the robots from causing destruction.
Graphically, the game is fine for the NES era. There is nothing wrong with the way it looks. It is in the standard 8-bit. All the robots and all objects are what appear to be.
For gameplay, there are six stages to select one. Granted, this is different as later Mega Man games would have eight robot masters to select from stage wise. Beat the robot master and get their power. Use it against another one. The format is the rock-paper-scissor format. That means that if you find a weakness, you can use that instead of the mega buster.
After completing the stages, it becomes more linear and focuses on completing the Dr. Wily levels. Once you get through them, eventually you get to the last stage and face Dr. Wily inside one of his machines. Defeating him completely will have him surrender and the game is over. There is an ending screen.
Mega Man is a good game to start with. While it may not be better than its sequel, it’s not a terrible game to start with. Consider this a starting point. Today, the game can be found on Mega Man Legacy Collection. There have been compilations that have been created. An earlier example would be Mega Man Anniversary Collection. That game has the first eight Mega Man games that came out along side two arcade games.
If you are looking to find just this game, you can find it online at stores like Amazon or eBay. As far as outside of it goes, it is also possible through a retro gaming store depending upon its stock. Because of technology, games out of the past may be harder to come by at a physical store. It’s good for a collection and would be worth trying out.
