Retro Gaming: Mega Man 2 (NES)

Mega Man 2 is the sequel to the first Mega Man game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Do not confuse with the Game Boy game Mega Man II. Calling this a sequel would follow in terms of the games on the same system.

Premise

Dr. Wily tasted defeat in the first game. Instead of stealing more robots, he had built his own robots. His objective is to still attempt to take over the world. Despite begging for forgiveness and vowing to change his ways, he has proven himself to be a liar.

Gameplay

As a means of being uniquely different, there are two modes of difficulty in the game. One is normal and the other is difficult. Think of that as a way of choosing your level of difficulty. Choose the one you can handle the most.

There is the stage selection screen. Simply select the robot master at the beginning and then go about playing through the stage. There is no official order to go through the stages. Go through the stage and then fight the robot master.

Unlike the previous game, there is a password system that the game follows. After defeating the robot master, you have the option to go about getting the password. As a tip, you should write it down in case you have to stop and take a break. Doing so can help at least with progress.

After completing all the robot masters, there will be a password that can be used to start off at the Dr. Wily levels. These stages are linear as there is no stage selection. There is also a difference in that there is a stage that has all the robot master’s to fight again.

There is a weapon that can be a weakness for other robot masters. Metal Man’s weapon is so effective that it can cut down Metal Man himself. When performing the rematch, you can use the Metal Blade and hit him with it.

Overall

Mega Man 2 is a good game to play. It is a little bit different from the first considering there were six in the first game. In addition, there are items that are present that can also be acquired from defeating specific robot masters. Check out Mega Man 2 if you are looking to start with Mega Man games. Today, it can be bought through the Mega Man Legacy Collection. Looking for real experience, this will require an NES and buying the cartridge. It is likely to be found online.
