Retro Gaming Reviews: Tiny Toon Adventures 2 (NES)

Tiny Toon Adventures 2 is a game for the NES.  It is the sequel to the previous Tiny Toons Adventures game.  It’s also based off the popular series that was out back in the 1990s. While the cartoon was popular, the game itself is different from its predecessor. In addition, it follows a pattern of games that have sequels that can be slightly different.

This plot is essentially there is a “secret admirer” that is out there and there are golden tickets that must be obtained.  Buster is going there along with his friends to the amusement park.  Essentially, it’s all a plot to lure Buster into a trap. The story for Tiny Toon Adventures 2 is not the same as the first game.

Unlike its predecessor, this one has a stage select. Furthermore, it is like the Mega Man games in the sense of being able to pick out the levels.  There are five levels in the game but only four are accessible. By four being accessible, that means you can only play those levels immediately before attempting the final level.  For context, the fifth and final level will need four golden tickets.  To complete it, you must beat the previous stages. Tiny Toon Adventures 2 stands out with stage selection.

When selecting a level, it will cost a specific amount of tickets.  Be sure to have plenty to be ready for usage.  If you do not, you may be lucky if you’ve completed a stage.  There is a ticket booth to exchange points for tickets.  Doing this will continue your game.

There is a level that involves the train.  In that stage, you are playing as Hampton.  The objective in this level is to get to the very end and defeat the boss.  Outside of the final level, this is the only one that has a boss.  Avoid the obstacles and be ready to attack.  After defeating the boss, the golden ticket will be obtained.

Picking the bumper car stage, you play as Plucky Duck.  In this one, there are three sections on it.  To complete it, you need to bump your opponents into the hole without falling in at all.  Complete that for all three sections and you will obtain the golden ticket.

The waterlog level is another level that must be played.  In this one, you are using Furball and must guide all the way to the very end without dying.  There are enemies to jump over and hazards as well.  Pay very close attention and make sure to get the timing down on the jumping.

Another obstacle course level is the roller coaster stage. This one involves using Babs Bunny.  For this one, it’s going to require timing and strategy.  Make sure to avoid any hazards.  Duck when necessary and flip to be under the hazard when needed.   Doing this will ensure you do not get hit as much.  Pay very close attention to enemies that appear.  Jump over them and make sure to be above the platform so you don’t fall and must try again. By paying attention to the platform, you will be making it easier on yourself.

The fun house is the very last level.   It requires 4 golden tickets.  If you have them all, you can proceed.  Buster Bunny is the one that is used for that level.   Go through the maze as there are doors to go through.  Some parts involve being upside down.  It is a maze to go through from beginning to end.

Tiny Toons Adventure 2 is a good game to play from beginning to end.  It is one of those games that can be hard to find.  If you are going to look online, you would be advised to go check Amazon or eBay.  While there is a possibility that it can be at a retro gaming store, it is not guaranteed.  Because of this, you may have to look online.  If you have a working NES, that would also be necessary. Tiny Toon Adventures 2 would be worth checking out if you are a collector or genuinely interested.
