Battletoads & Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team is a game that is on multiple consoles. For the purposes of this review, the focus is going to be on the NES version.
For the plot, the Dark Queen, who is the main villain of the Battletoads series, had been defeated and is looking for revenge once again. Eventually, she would meet up with the Shadow Boss and joined forces. Knowing that help was needed, the Battletoads contacted Billy and Jimmy and they agreed to help. Ironically, in Double Dragon, the Shadow Boss was not the main villain in the NES trilogy of Double Dragon games.
The gameplay starts off with three options for playing the game. There is just the one-player mode and then there are two modes that are two players. One version is where the players cannot hit each other. The other version is where the players can hit each other, though most times it can be unintentional. There are five players you can choose from.
For the Battletoads characters, you can pick Rash, Pimple, and Zitz. With Double Dragon, there’s Billy and Jimmy to play as. As far as the best character to play is concerned, well that is up to you to determine. Once you’ve selected your character, then the game begins.
There are seven levels of play. Various enemies are present as a mixture of the two games are present. In terms of the game overall, it’s a solid game to play on the NES collection. If you can find this game, it’s worth checking out. Those that may like Battletoads may enjoy this more. Possibly Double Dragon fans might want to check it out as well. Currently, it has yet to appear on the Nintendo Switch Online so your best bet would be to buy the game online.
