Super Mario Bros. is a game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It is perhaps one of the single most recognizable games in the video game industry. Today, the game is available on the Switch under the channel Nintendo Switch Online. The game would be the start of the Super Mario Bros. adventure franchise. 

Basic Overview

There is not an extensive story. Bowser captured the princess, and Mario has to rescue her. Keep in mind that many games did not have a story initially on the screen. It wasn’t until Ninja Gaiden came out.

Graphics

For the NES itself, it would be fair to say that it was solid for what could be done. Comparing the graphics to today’s standards would be unfair. Though it was better than the Atari 2600, it would be fair to compare it to being good for its time when the NES came out.

Gameplay

For the single player, it’s just going straight through. There are time limits that must be followed. Failure to do so will result in losing a life. You start with three lives and can gain 1-ups by getting the green mushroom.

As a starter for the franchise, there is the regular mushroom, which will give Mario the ability to break the bricks. There is also the Fire Flower, which will grant the ability to throw fire at enemies. Finally, there is the invincibility star, which will make the character invincible for a brief period.

For the two-player portion, you have Luigi as the second character. The powerups that were mentioned previously

Tip

There is a method that can be used to complete the game rather quickly. Instead of playing straight through from World 1 to World 8, there is a route that can get to the end rather quickly. It would be taking the route to go from World 1-2 and walking on the bricks above the pipe. Of course, it requires a proper jump and speed. Go over there and there will be three pipes.

Take the one that goes to World 4. In World 4-2, there is a beanstalk to use to climb. Find two hidden blocks and break them. Open the one furthest to your left and you should see the beanstalk. Climb up there and then take the pipe to go to World 8 and that’s it.

Overall

Super Mario Bros. is an enjoyable game to play. Since its release, it has appeared in more modern consoles such as the Wii and then in the Switch especially for Nintendo Switch Online. If you want to buy the original game, you will need to have an NES. In addition, your best place would be online at a store like Amazon.
