Disclaimer: This post is not an endorsement of any game console. I am simply giving a general sense of what to look for when deciding to buy a gaming system. For those that like a particular console, it is perfectly fine to do so.
Buying the next game console can be a challenge. Currently, as of today (1/6/2024), it is the ninth generation of game consoles. To be specific, the Xbox Series X/S and the PlayStation 5 as the primary consoles. While the Nintendo Switch can be argued as part of the generation, it has been out longer than those two systems.
Looking directly at the prices for Consoles.
Can you afford it? By that, can you afford it without it hurting any of your expenses? It is a question that you must ask yourself. Initially, the game consoles can end up being expensive. Searching online can help especially if it has not come out yet with pre-order prices. Console prices can be reduced in due time, but it will depend upon what the demand is.
Brand Loyalty
The previous generation can play a role. For example, if you happened to like the PS4, you may gravitate towards the PS5. Brand loyalty can be a factor. A good reputation will indeed play a role. It can also be said for Microsoft systems such as the Xbox One. Perhaps there’s an appeal there.
Video Game Library for the Consoles
A game library can be particularly important in determining which console to buy. Personally, a good rule of thumb would be to investigate the gaming libraries and see what catches your eye. Have a list of games that you are going to buy. By having it, you will get a good sense of what to buy that will sound appealing.
Final Decision
The decision to buy your game console will be up to you. Be sure to keep in mind the factors. If it cannot be afforded right away, it would be best to simply save up. To illustrate this, it is like making a budget for what you can do. Should the price come down and it is within your range, buy it. Provided there are games that you will enjoy, investigate it, and buy then.
